Mari Berbahasa Indonesia: Perkenalan Diri

Note: This is not a word-for-word transcript.

Halo, nama saya Dhona.

Saya berasal dari Indonesia.

Senang berkenalan dengan Anda.

This is Mari Mengindonesia from BasaBasa Learning Centre.

My name is Dhona and I will assist you in learning Indonesian today.

In this video, I’m going to teach you basic phrases that you can use to introduce yourself in Indonesian. If you’re planning to visit Indonesia or simply want to learn the language, introducing yourself is a great way to start a conversation and make new friends. These phrases are easy to learn and remember, so you can confidently use them in your next conversation with an Indonesian speaker.

Before we begin, you may want to grab a pen and paper to take notes or practice writing the phrases we’ll be learning today. Don’t worry if you don’t get them right the first time, the more you practice, the more confident you’ll become.

So, are you ready to learn how to introduce yourself in Indonesian? Let’s get started!

As you can see in the beginning of this video, I did an introduction in Indonesian. In a few minutes, you can also do that. So now let’s break it down.

Let’s start with “Halo”, it means “hello”. You can also replace it with “selamat pagi, selamat siang, and selamat malam.” You can check the details when to use them in our previous video. Also, you can even combine it.

Halo. Selamat pagi.

Halo. Selamat siang.

Halo Selamat malam.

Then, let’s move on to the next phrase, “nama saya …”. In Indonesian, the structure is a little bit different. You have to start with the object then the possessive pronoun. Alternatively, you can just say “saya … “.

Nama saya Dhona

Saya Dhona.

Next one is how to tell your country or hometown. “Saya berasal dari …”. “Saya dari Indonesia”. In English it’s “I come from …” or “I’m from …”

Saya berasal dari Indonesia.

Saya dari Indonesia.

Lastly, we have “senang berkenalan dengan Anda”, which means “nice to meet you”. We can replace “Anda” with other pronouns, which you’re going to learn in the next episode.

To recap, today we’ve learned how to say

Halo … Nama saya … Saya berasal dari … dan Senang berkenalan dengan Anda.

These phrases are easy to learn and remember, and they will help you start a conversation and make new friends in Indonesia.
